Kaspersky: Fraudsters exploit Netflix brand to expand malware
MOSCOW, Jul 22 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Kaspersky detected more than 22,000 efforts to infect devices with malicious files mentioning U.S. Internet entertainment giant Netflix in the title in the period from January 2019 till April, the antivirus software maker said late on Tuesday in a statement.
“Perpetrators add names of popular shows in advertising and malicious programs and exploit them for phishing attacks,” Kaspersky said.
Among the found malicious files, Kaspersky saw Trojans with various functions, like to delete or block files, and spyware, including viruses stealing photos and online banking passwords.
As the lure, perpetrators used series Stranger Things, The Witcher, Sex Education, and Orange Is the New Black.
